How To Make a Serving Tray from a Salvaged Cupboard Door

While visiting a friend who was in the process of gutting her kitchen, we noticed a pile of cabinet doors stacked in the corner. Before leaving, we grabbed a couple for a potential DIY project. After researching some ideas on Crafty Nest, we thought a serving tray would be the perfect transformation for the old door.
What You Need
• A cabinet door – any size will do, depending on how big you want your tray to be.
• rag
• sandpaper
• acrylic paint (I used leftover paint from another home project)
• black spray paint (I used Rust-Oleum high gloss)
• high-gloss polyurethane
• 4 machine screws
• 2 drawer pulls
• 4 felt or rubber pads
• wood filler
• newspaper
• paintbrushes
Tools
• screwdriver
• drill
Instructions
1. Spray Paint Drawer Pulls
Spray both sides. Let dry, then spray again.
2. Sand
Remove old hardware (may need to use a degreaser once removed) from cupboard door and sand both front and back. Wipe down with rag to remove all dust. Add wood filler to any existing holes.
3. Paint
Apply first coat of paint, then reapply once dry. Add a coat of clear, high-gloss polyurethane.
4. Attach Handles
Once your felt/rubber pads are attached to the back, measure, mark and drill holes for your drawer pulls. Attach handles.
