Researches, designs, and develops computer software systems, in conjunction with hardware product development for various aerospace and scientific applications applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis. Perform highly complex analysis, test, design and/or development. Perform preliminary/original design and analysis. Plan strategies for analysis, test and design used for task planning and execution. Analyze project requirements and develop detailed objectives and detailed planning and conceptual designs. Without detailed direction, plan, prepare, and complete the design of assigned complex components and functional systems. Interact with internal and external customers. Assist the customer in defining system requirements and in the generation of specifications for products or sub systems. Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering team in the design, test, production and maintenance phases of a project.
Standard Job Description Plans, conducts, and coordinates software development activities. Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems or questions in computer language for solutions by means of data processing equipment. Applies the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle. Applies knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matter to be programmed in business/mission applications, information processing techniques used, and information gathered from system users to develop software. Corrects program errors, prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls. Ensures software standards are met.

Typical Minimums Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an emerging authority.
