Ilayaraja Copying His Own Song.

As commented by some, does Ilayaraja copy his own songs? I was little convinced with this argument for a while. Since I am a hardcore fan of Ilayaraja, I did some digging. I realized later that he does copy his own songs, but for a reason!

‘Shanbagame Shanbagame’ is my all time favorite Tamil song. As you watch this video, even if you don’t understand Tamil, you will agree with me that this is a love song.

Now, here is the song from Aa Okkati Adakku movie, ‘Pavurama Pavurama.’  In this, the same tune was composed as a sad song.

As he was stating in a recent audio function, he does get the tunes based on the director, situation and mood of the scene. He had thought that this tune is best suited for the situation and composed again the same tune in a sad mood.

Isn’t it a wonder to hear a same tune in two different moods? Enjoy!

  1. Afterall, his songs are his own creation. For, dont we as parents rehash our wishes in a different form for our children.

  2. Hi All,

As we all know, Ilayaraaja is one of the greatest human being of all time. All that we feel for is that he did not get his due respect in terms of awards or titles… otherwise our unconditional love is there for him… God bless him & all of us to understand his music & work..

    Yours Sincerely,
    Shivaneshan

    • You have a very unique name.

  3. Hi!

This is a very nice observation – I was not aware of the existence of a Telugu version of this song with a different orchestration! Thanks for posting this!

    With regards,
    Vijay.
