Happy new year and Sankranti.  Its been a while I had posted anything on the globe. I am back now. I am not sure how many of the globers know about this phone, but I came across it while shopping for a tough smartphone.  The Casio G’zOne, is one tough android phone that can take a beating. It has waterproof body so accidental drops in the pool are fine.

Make no mistake it is a full featured smartphone which would do most of the things that you do on any other smartphones.  The only issue seems to be the battery life. I will be buying one if Casio improves the battery life.

Not content to provide us with ClockworkMod Recovery and other fine hacks, Koush just made a free USB tethering app available for Android aptly called ClockworkMod Tether Alpha. While it’s not the first app to bypass paid tethering plans, it supports unrooted phones and works with Linux, Mac and Windows computers. Just enable USB debugging on your phone, download the appropriate installer for your desktop OS of choice, then connect both devices via USB and you’re all set. The installation process creates a virtual network adapter on your computer and pushes a matching APK to your phone. A proxy is used to avoid detection by the carriers.

Apple acquired this (it seems last year, but not too many seem to know!). I think this takes maps technology much ahead. We get real 3D version of the streets and buildings and one can zoom up close. It looks much better than the street view on google maps.

They do have both iOS and android versions. But look at the part when it wouldn’t start on Galaxy Tab. bummer…

It looks like Amazon is going to upstage Apple at it’s own game here. They came up with this hand-held entertainment system. It is not for games and some other apps like iPad but I guess for someone who likes to read and watch media and listen music this is some serious gadget to be considered. The best thing with this is that it is completely independent device, no need to sync up with a system! Even better thing is it’s price. $199!

And it boasts of revolutionary ‘Amazon Silk’ browser which uses the split-browser paradigm to distribute browser load onto the cloud.

The other day I asked one caller on how he is accessing podcasts posted on TeluGlobe. It appears that he is listening to them directly using the web browser via TeluGlobe site. This is a good way. The trouble with this is older episodes cannot be seen immediately unless you seek older posts or do a search.

There is a better way. Download all MMGL episodes to your iTunes library and then synch them to your mobile iPxxxx device. Here is a surprise video podcast for you which shows how to do it.

Very few people command respect just for their vision, innovation, leadership, courage, charisma -- and most importantly what they have accomplished. To me Steve Jobs is one such person. This true visionary, great innovator, inspirational leader and man who made a big difference in the lives of millions of people -- is stepping down as CEO of Apple due to health reasons. Hats off, sir! You deserve a standing ovation! We know that you are blessed with so many positives, but cursed with ill health. Regardless, we wish you the best life has to offer.

When you listen to him, when you read about him you will see a philosopher. He may be a college dropout, but he has a university within himself. He proved that formal education is not needed for a true genius. In the years to come, top B schools will develop numerous case studies from his accomplishments to incorporate into their MBA curricula. An inspirational commencement speech by him. This is a must, must, must watch. (When I watched it, I was filled with inexplicable excitement.)
